  • Heavy-bottomed saucepan
  • * Whisk
  • Measuring cups
  • * Measuring spoons
  • Fine-mesh strainer (optional)
  • Heatproof mugs
  • Ladle (optional, for serving)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups 946 ml unfiltered apple cider
  • ¼ cup 60 ml thick caramel sauce
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • ½ teaspoon 1.5 g ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch 0.5 g kosher salt

Optional Garnishes (Serving Suggestions)

  • Whipped cream
  • Extra caramel sauce
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Thin apple slices

Instructions

  • Pour the unfiltered apple cider into a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  • Heat over medium-low heat until the cider begins to steam and tiny bubbles form around the edges, about 5 minutes. Do not allow it to boil.
  • Whisk in the caramel sauce until completely melted and the cider becomes smooth and evenly combined.
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, ground nutmeg, and kosher salt.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Remove the cinnamon sticks or strain the cider through a fine-mesh strainer if desired.
  • Pour into mugs and serve immediately.
  • Garnish with whipped cream, extra caramel drizzle, or a cinnamon stick if desired. (These garnishes are optional serving ideas and are not part of the source recipe.)

Notes

Use unfiltered apple cider instead of apple juice for the richest flavor.
Do not boil the cider, as overheating can make the caramel overly thick.
Whisk continuously while adding the caramel sauce so it melts smoothly.
If the cider tastes too sweet, stir in a splash of fresh lemon juice to balance the flavors.
For parties, prepare the cider in a slow cooker on Low for 2–3 hours, then switch to Keep Warm for serving.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days. Reheat gently and whisk before serving because the caramel may settle.
This recipe is naturally gluten-free when made with a certified gluten-free caramel sauce.
