Ingredients
  

Fruit Filling

  • 3 cups firm tart apples peeled and sliced
  • 3 cups ripe but firm pears peeled and sliced
  • Brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg
  • 1 –2 tablespoons cornstarch

Walnut Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup chopped English walnuts
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup cold butter cubed

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel and slice the apples and pears.
  • Toss the fruit with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  • Spread the fruit into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.
  • Mix the oats, flour, walnuts, and brown sugar.
  • Cut the cold butter into the topping until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit.
  • Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  • Let the crisp cool for 15 minutes before serving.
